Jumellea arachnantha

Here are some pictures of my one purchase from the Southern Ontario Orchid Society show a few weekends ago. It's a Jumellea arachnantha that had 4 spikes on it when i purchased it. The spikes survived despite the change in environment and have grown about 3 times in height. Three of the spikes are now in bloom (successive) and the fragrance of this plant is amazing - especially in the evening. My plant doesn't look quite as spectacular as this plant, but it's doesn't look too bad!

Jumellea arachnantha is an African species (Madagascar).

Southern Ontario Orchid Society 2008 Show

This weekend the Toronto Botanical Gardens are hosting the Southern Ontario Orchid Society's 29th Annual Orchid Show. We spent a few hours there yesterday, checking out the exhibits and award-winning plants and of course the sales area. We went to the plant sales first, as did most other people, I think! It was pretty crowded everywhere, and very warm, and you really had to push your way in to take a close look at any plants or to speak with any of the vendors. I found it a bit overwhelming!

Here are some pictures from the exhibits:

19th World Orchid Conference

The 19th World Orchid Conference was held at the end of January in Miami, Florida. This event is only held once every three years. A conference attendee, "mad plumerian" has posted some pictures of the event on Flickr.

Singapore will be hosting the next World Orchid Conference in 2011.
